Class Format & Eligibility
What ages do you accept for beginner students?
We specialize in beginner classes for children aged 7-12.
Do you offer adult classes?
Our school group programs currently focus on youth/children. However, several of our instructors offer private lessons for adults or can recommend private tutors in the region.
Do you offer group classes or one-on-one instruction?
Our primary program consists of affordable, community-focused group classes. Private 1-on-1 instruction is also available through individual teachers upon request.
Enrollment & Schedule
Where are classes located?
Our group classes run on Tuesday evenings in East Vancouver, currently hosted at Nootka Elementary School.
Can students join mid-term, or at any time of the year?
New terms start in Fall (September), Winter (January), and Spring (April). Free trial classes are available at the start of terms! Contact us to check mid-term availability.
Instruments & Music Progression
Which instruments do you teach?
We offer instruction in tin whistle, fiddle, concertina, Irish flute, and accordion.
What instrument should my child start on?
The tin whistle is the ideal foundation for Irish traditional music. It is simple to pick up, budget-friendly, and teaches essential ornamentation and rhythm.
Does my child need their own tin whistle, or are instruments provided?
We provide a tin whistle for beginner trial classes! For regular attendance, students should have their own whistle. We also maintain an instrument rental library for larger instruments like accordions, concertinas, and flutes.
How long should a student play the tin whistle before switching to another instrument?
We typically recommend at least one year on the tin whistle to build core tune knowledge and finger agility before branching out to fiddle, concertina, accordion, or flute.
